EMMA FLATS

BASALT, COLORADO

This multi-family project is all about creating affordable and obtainable workforce housing in the Roaring Fork Valley.  In achieving this fundamental goal, the site needed to reach its fullest potential for an efficient and functional plan with one and two bedroom apartments custom fit to the criteria of the PUD and the Basalt Master Plan’s vision of the community.

With the bustling energy of Highway 82 to the South, and a riparian river forest to the North, orientating the design for health living seemed key to our approach.  Protecting the inhabitants from highway exposure while providing a front façade that is both pedestrian and parking friendly determined the design solution on one side.  While opening up to private natural views of the forest and the river’s bank became the emphasis on the other.

A pairing of numerous sustainable goals and renewable energy offsets with quality of life benchmarks and the urban values set forth by the Basalt community combine to set this project above most others in the region.  Resulting in homes the new residents can be proud of, while addressing the critical need to fill the gap in workforce housing in the valley.
